Are DJI Drones banned in the USA?
Should I be afraid of buying a DJI spray drone?
What is the Countering CCP Drone Act?
We get asked these questions every day here at Avary Drone. The answer to both questions is simply, "No!" DJI Drones are not banned in the United States. But let's go a little deeper and explain why people are asking about DJI drones being banned and what it means for DJI drone owners and potential owners.
What is the Countering CCP Drone Act and why are some members of congress trying to block DJI?
In February 2022, Congresswoman Stefanik first introduced the Countering CCP Drones Act. The legislation would add DJI to the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Covered List, blocking drones from operating on communication networks in the United States. You can learn more about the Countering CCP Drone Act here.
Why? Stefanik believes DJI drones are supporting the Chinese military. Those in favor of the Countering CCP Drone Act are worried about DJI's dominance in the US market.
“It is strategically irresponsible to allow Communist China to be our drone factory. It is now critical that the Senate include this legislation in their National Defense Authorization Act.”
Did the Countering CCP Drone Act Pass?
No. The Countering CCP Drone Act passed the House of Representatives in but did not go through the Senate. The Countering CCP Drone Act was not incporated in the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
Should I be afraid of buying a DJI spray drone? What if they Ban DJI Drones in the Future?
The wording in the Countering CCP Drone Act is forward looking. This means, even if the legislation were to pass it would only affect future DJI Drone sales. Existing DJI drone owners including custom applicators flying DJI Agras T40, T50, and so on will still be able to operate their drones. If the legislation were passed there would likely be years of legal battles, putting practical implementation of the law on hold.
DJI spray drones like the DJI T50 are still the best on the market both in terms of quality and efficiency. With wide availability of parts and service, applicators with a DJI T50 or similar will be able to use their drones for many years.
Is this going to happen anytime soon?
It is unlikely that the Countering CCP Drone act will pass in it's current state. What is more likely is that the current ban of DJI being used by Federal Agencies or projects funded by the federal government will continue to be the policy of the United States. This means private and commercial use of DJI drones will be allowed but the government will have to look elsewhere for an American Made drone to do the job.
What is DJI's response?

In summary, if you are looking to purchase a spray drone for custom application or just to manage your own land and crops, a DJI Agras spray drone is still the best option on the market and will be in the foreseable future.
